A Rose by any other Name

Northcote Rose Show

New Zealand has taught me an awareness of two things at least - Birds and Flowers. I would also like to say Self Awareness, but I hear the chorus of Nay-sayers in the background, so let's stay with the birds and flowers. At present the roses are out in force and Desika's love of flowers compelled a visit to a local rose show.

A new rose variety - the Desika

This newly acquired floral awareness does not run to naming names so just enjoy.

The round ones

The square ones

Basket cases

and Winners

and Rosaphilic Aficionados

Logan and Shirley's Farm

I spent a relaxing weekend with Logan at his little farm near Wellsford. The early summer weather was perfect and a couple of small treks on the acreage produced a photo collection  of the flora and fauna.

Logan feeds the chickens, ducks and guinea fowl.

Taking their places for the barn dance

The Beau Brummel of the Ball

The Matrons sit this one out

There's always an outsider

Event Security provided by Makeda

The lady in the balcony

At events like this one, corsages abound

Button-holes for the gentlemen

And try to involve the wall-flowers

A function venue like no other

With a touch of history

Even if the varnish has lost a little of its sheen

There's fresh lettuce on the sandwiches at supper

And Beau was the last to leave the dance floor
