Orchid in a Brisbane garden
RATIONALE: I was really in Brisbane to have a painful repair to a failed previous repair of a hernia problem.
But rather than provide you with a surgeon's account of a difficult procedure or publish riskey close up photos of stitches and bruises, I prefer to provide images from the wonderful environs of the homes of kind friends who gave me shelter during my two weeks recuperation.
Thank you Daisuke, Mark and Penny the almost human dog, Roberta and Gabe by the bay, John in his mountain eyrie and Deannah in her classic Queenslander.
relaxing on Roberta's beautiful bayside verandah
the Elizabethan gentleman is Indie
The artful yet sincere touches make me feel so welcome
at peace
and far from the rush of the city
up on John's mountain
in his rainforest garden
mesmerised by flowers and sunlight
rest was certain
but back to the city
to experience disappointment with the new and silly
fascination with urban preoccupations
delight in the old Brisbane
that survives only a block from the devastation of new tunnels and overpasses
and so with a bouquet for kindnesses
and a farewell drink with friends
it's off into the blue and home to the land of the long white clouds
